Incred-O-Dome
1981 - 1997

For the 1981 season, the park made several updates with a total investment of one-million, with its most significant investment being the new yellow Incred-O-Dome theater located in the Aerodrome at the time. Incred-O-Dome replaced Wing Ding, which had only operated for two seasons, and was located in the same location. Incred-O-Dome was created by Cinema 180, A Florida-based company that produced larger format (70mm) film for various park attractions across the country. Incred-O-Dome featured a 180-degree quadraspherical screen that measured 40 by 26 foot, along with "roaring sound effects and narration" provided through a six-channel stereophonic sound system. At Worlds of Fun the 12-min. film featured a highway car chase, a runaway cable car ride, a helicopter ride through the Grand Canyon, and a virtual ride on Lochness Monster at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. In a Dec. 13, 1980 article published by the St. Joseph News-Press it was stated to accommodate 1,200 guests per hour bring the park's ride and show capacity to 30,000. Many recall being dizzy after the attraction and while you could technically stand to experience it, most felt it was best to either sit on the carpeted interior.

In 1993, the Incred-O-Dome received a unique update to include mechanical bugs as part of the "Backyard Monsters: The World of Insects" exhibit sponsored by the Kansas City Science Museum. The exhibit was populated by larger-than-life scorpions, dragonflies, spiders, beetles, ants, and mantis. Guests would enter into the exhibit and be "transformed" so that grass would tower over them like in a jungle scene. The exhibit requested a $1 donation upon entrance but was also open to non-park guests for two hours before park opening, from 9 am to 11 am, for a cost of $3.50 for adults and $2,50 for children.

For the 1994 season, the Incred-O-Dome was re-transformed into its original theater attraction and would continue as such until its final season in 1997. Many recall visiting Incred-O-Dome in its last years when it was lightly populated and instead of being a state-of-the-art theater exhibit was instead seen as an air-conditioned, dark, respite throwback to their childhoods. Incred-O-Dome would go on to be replaced by Scrambler in 1998, the park originally planned on trying to place Scrambler inside the yellow dome itself but found that it barely didn't fit. That wouldn't have been entirely outlandish as only a few years prior in 1995 the park built an indoor spinning ride known as Cyclone Sams. Scrambler would operate at that location until 2014. Today, the concrete Incred-O-Dome pad is typically empty however is still used occasionally during the holiday months, as a pumpkin patch for Halloween and a tree farm for Winterfest.
